Speaking of crazy steering wheels, have you seen the dual joysticks in the Hyundai Prophecy concept EV?
Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the self-driving electric vehicle this week amid much fanfare. But what really grabbed critics’ attention was the joysticks.
“Instead of a steering wheel, joysticks provide a completely new yet reassuringly familiar and intuitive driving experience,” Hyundai said in a statement.
“By offering two joysticks that can pivot left and right, one in the center console and another on the door trim, drivers are able to control the vehicle from a position of comfort,” Hyundai added.
Hyundai also boasted about the advantages of using the joysticks over a traditional steering wheel.
“Furthermore, drivers have access to a wide variety of functions, which can be selected via the joysticks’ integrated buttons.” Hyundai said.
“Design changes that have been enabled by the use of joysticks offer more visual freedom to passengers. In Relax mode, passengers have virtually zero visual obstacles. In a comfortably reclined position, all that the passengers see is the horizontal pillar-to-pillar display and the wing shaped dashboard,” Hyundai explained.
“Ultimately, this human-machine interface enhances passenger safety.”
Most importantly, we bet it feels like flying a spaceship!

That’s about the stupidest thing I have ever seen. On the up side, if your hands have to be on the joysticks maybe it will keep people off their cell phones.
