Bry-Tech Distributors says it bought most of Detroit Body Products’ inventory, following the Michigan company’s closure.
“Bry-Tech Distributors has purchased the majority of the inventory from Detroit Body Products,” the Jacksonville, Florida, distributor said on Instagram this week. “We have four, 53′ trailers full on the way. This 80,000 yards will be in addition to the 60,000 yards we have in stock now.”
Detroit Body Products, longtime supplier of OEM fabrics and publisher of the popular Detroit Book, announced its closure earlier this month.
Founded in 1955, Detroit Body Products was the largest supplier of automotive textile closeouts in North America. They stocked original automotive fabric, vinyl, headlining and genuine leather.
Detroit Body Products auctioned its massive inventory of OEM fabrics in Wixom, Michigan, on June 5 – 8, 2021.
It sounds like Bry-Tech Distributors bought most of it. Alongside a photo of hundreds of rolls of fabric, the company wrote: “We also buy from the textile mills that Detroit Body used to buy from. You will still be able to get what you need in matching OEM goods for many years to come.”
Bry-Tech Distributors also said they’re working on creating a 2021 catalog similar to the Detroit Book. Now that’s a cool development!

It’s true that Bry-Tech bought a lot of the inventory but they didn’t buy it all. There were 4 main Buyers. the 2 that got over 80,000 yds each were Bry-Tech and Colorado Auto Trim Supply company (Autointeriorsupply.com).in Denver. A couple of other suppliers got about a truckload each. I know because I was there in person all last week catagorizing and loading up the inventory with the Auction company.
