Tesla owners have a long list of grievances with the fit and finish of their cars — but their latest complaint is a doozy.
Apparently, owners are complaining that the wood trim in their cabins doesn’t match. Basically, there’s one color and grain for the dash and another for the door panels.
The issue came to light when the owner of a Model Y shared an image of his mismatched wood trim in an online forum for Tesla owners. He said that he complained to Tesla and was told it’s the same “with all cars.”
“I have a hard time believing this,” he said before asking other users to share photos of their wood trim.
Lo and behold, the problem appears to be widespread. People from all over shared pictures of their interiors that also have mismatched wood trim.
Yahoo! Australia reached out to Tesla for comment, but hasn’t heard back. Meanwhile, all people in the forums can do is speculate about the inconsistency.
Many believe the mismatch is a defect due to poor quality control. Others suspect it’s the result of sun fading, wood sourced from multiple suppliers, or even the expected consequence of using wood with a natural finish.
Regardless, it’s not what you’d expect in a car priced like a luxury model.
“Tesla buyers should have high expectations, these are very expensive vehicles for their size, and there are far better quality interiors and finishes available on the market,” Trevor Long, host of Two Blokes Talking Electric Cars, told Yahoo.
“This comes from the very early days of the brand when ‘panel gaps’ were large and inconsistent across the cars,” he said. “Over many years they have refined this and improved no doubt, but I don’t think they are yet at the standard of the European luxury cars.”
We agree. It’s incredibly disappointing.
