A minivan crashed into B and K Upholstery in Campbell River, British Columbia, destroying the storefront.
Thanh Ngo, the owner, was nearly injured in the crash, which occurred on June 17.
“I see these two guys exit the vehicle, both wearing black [and] one wearing a grey hat, which was the driver,” he told Ladysmith Chemainus Chronicle. “They were yelling and screaming at each other, ‘What are we going to do? What’s wrong with the car?'” That’s when it suddenly accelerated and crashed into the shop.
Ngo said if he didn’t dodge the minivan, he would have been crushed.
“The driver, when he crashed into the building, wasn’t in the building but was hanging from the back part of it. He was thrown right to the sidewalk against the building. He was already outside of the vehicle. There was no one in the vehicle,” he said.
It’s unclear if the driver or passenger were badly injured in the crash.
The front window, door and the beam that holds up a corner were significantly damaged. Several upholstery projects were also destroyed.
Ngo says repairs to the storefront will take about a month. In the meantime, his team is working from the backend of the building.
Though it’s not always possible to prevent catastrophes — such as fires, crashes or natural disasters — a robust insurance policy could save you a lot of grief. Make sure your shop’s policy is up to date!
