Volkswagen has announced that it will cease production of the T-Roc Cabriolet in 2025, ending the German automaker’s 75-year history of manufacturing convertible vehicles.
The T-Roc Cabriolet, introduced in 2020 to select markets, was Volkswagen’s replacement for the Golf Cabriolet. It was restyled in 2023 and is scheduled to be redesigned in 2025. But it will no longer be available as a drop top, according to WardsAuto.
The move comes as Volkswagen begins its shift away from internal-combustion-engine-powered vehicles to electric ones. Due to engineering challenges, as well as safety concerns and cost constraints, there are few EV convertibles on the market.
However, Volkswagen could still introduce an electric cabriolet in the future. We suspect it’s only a matter of time before it does.
For now though, RIP to the VW convertible.
