Duo-Fast is joining the latest trend to sweep the upholstery industry by introducing vegan staples.
The manufacturer of staples guns and related fasteners made the announcement on the heels of a new report by Environmental Working Group, which found wasteful practices within the fastener industry are a leading cause of degradation in the planet’s iron ore reserves.
“The increasing demand for steel staples is causing an immense amount of pressure on deposits of iron ore, a key ingredient in their production,” said Zelbert Hadeed, CEO of Duo-Fast Corporation. “Vegan staples place no such pressure on these vital deposits.”
The Duo-Fast Green Series are manufactured through a patent-pending process that fuses acorn dust, banana peels and plastic ocean waste together to create a solid staple fastener that is supposedly as tough as it is Earth friendly.
“Our Green Series staples can handle anything that a steel staple can. They fasten tightly, don’t rust and are compatible with most existing staple guns — including Duo-Fast, Empire, BEA, Fasco, Rainco, Senco and Spotnail,” Hadeed said.
“We anticipate they will be a big hit in the upholstery sector, which is already experiencing heightened demand for vegan leather products and other green textiles,” he added.
The vegan staples are available in a range of sizes, including 1/2″, 1/4″, 9/16″ and 3/8″.
