Trimmer Murl “John” Thurston of New Castle, Indiana, has died at age 95.
John was born October 28, 1926 in Wayne County, Kentucky. Following his discharge from the US Army, John married Betty Jean Beck and moved to New Castle, where he opened Thurston’s Seat Covers and Auto Upholstery. He was renown for his quality work, and ran the auto upholstery shop well into his 80’s.
In his free time, John was an active member of Foursquare Gospel Church, and served as a Sunday School Teacher and congregational song leader. He also liked to fish, but mainly enjoyed spending time with his daughters and their families, according to his obituary.
John died on July 27, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Thurston; two daughters, Connie Lynn Durbin and Beth Ann Burkett; grandchildren, Michael Burkett, Patrick Enoch, Cale Durbin and Erica Wright; great grandson, Jase Enoch; grandson-in-law, Lee Terrell; siblings, Jim Thurston, Glen Thurston and Murlene Pyle; special niece, Tena Hoots; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
