Michigan Upholstery Shop Completely Destroyed in Fire

The Hog Ring - Michigan Upholstery Shop Completely Destroyed in Fire

Andrew’s Upholstery in Burton, Michigan, has reportedly been burned to the ground.

The fire, which broke out on the morning of February 4, reduced the upholstery shop to rubble, according to Burton Fire Chief Kirk Wilkinson. The building is “100% burned out. It just is a total loss,” he said.

The fire also damaged a neighboring building, according to authorities. Fortunately, no one was in either building at the time of the blaze.

Andrew’s Upholstery was already engulfed in flames and clouds of smoke were visible for miles around when fire fighters arrived on the scene shortly after 7 am. They closed several local roads to run hose lines from hydrants.

In addition to Burton Fire Department, at least six other departments helped extinguish the flames — including Grand Blanc Township, the city of Grand Blanc, Flint Township, Mundy Township, Swartz Creek and Davison.

Authorities stayed on the scene until around 1 pm, investigating the fire. The cause has not yet been determined.

Though it’s not always possible to prevent fires, remember that upholstery shops can take steps to limit their losses — such as storing combustible items properly and ensuring their buildings are up to code. Of course, insurance is a must.

Join us in wishing Andrew’s Upholstery a speedy recovery.
