Ford is recalling nearly 420,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to a seat belt issue that could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects certain Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models from the 2018 through 2022 model years.
The problem involves seat belt retractors that may lock unexpectedly. When that happens, the seat belt may not retract or extend properly. NHTSA says a seat belt that cannot move as intended may not provide the expected protection in a crash. In some cases, occupants could also be injured if the seat belt retracts too quickly.
Ford says it’s aware of at least one injury that may be related to the issue.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters by mail. Dealers will inspect both front seat belt retractors and replace any affected components at no cost to the owner.
